If you’ve always cared deeply about animals, you can choose to carry that care forward into the future
Leaving a gift to the NSPCA in your Will is one way to help protect animals who may have no one else to speak up for them. Your gift, whatever its size, can help animals affected by cruelty, neglect and abandonment receive the care, protection and second chance they need.
The NSPCA has been protecting animals for more than a century. Today, its work includes rescuing animals in distress, providing veterinary care and rehabilitation, supporting cruelty investigations, helping animals find safe new homes, and educating people about responsible animal ownership and animal welfare.
After taking care of your loved ones, a gift in your Will can help make sure that animals continue to have someone in their corner.
A legacy that began more than a century ago
One of the earliest recorded benefactors of the NSPCA was Alice Mary Swifte.
When Miss Swifte died in 1909, aged 85, she left £4,000 in her Will to help protect cats. That gift would be worth approximately €630,000 today.
More than a century later, her concern for cats still forms part of the story of animal welfare in Ireland. Cats remain among the thousands of animals rescued, rehabilitated and rehomed by the NSPCA each year.
Alice Mary Swifte could not have known what her gift would make possible in the decades that followed. But she made a decision during her lifetime that reflected something she deeply cared about – the welfare of animals.
You can make a similar choice today.
A gift in your Will could help provide veterinary treatment and rehabilitation for an animal recovering from cruelty or neglect, support NSPCA Inspectors investigating cases of animal cruelty, or help give an animal the chance to find a safe and loving home.
It could also support education and advocacy that help prevent animal cruelty in the first place.
Looking after your loved ones – and the animals you care about
Including a gift to the NSPCA does not mean that family and loved ones have to come second. After making provision for those closest to you, your solicitor can advise you on the type of charitable gift that best reflects your circumstances and wishes.
If you already have a Will, you may not need to rewrite it. Your solicitor can explain how a gift to the NSPCA can be added to an existing Will.
The NSPCA also offers supporters access to a free online Will-writing service through its charity partner, FreeWill Ireland. The standard service is free, while people with more complex circumstances can be referred for additional legal advice from a partner solicitor.
Could your care for animals continue after you?
For animal lovers, a gift in your Will can be a very personal way to say that animals will always matter to you.
