Looking for an Affordable Homecare Solution?

    0
By Senior Times on September 23, 2022 Health, Profiles

Sourcing suitable care for an elderly relative is a challenge that many families face at some stage or another. There are many different options out there such as nursing homes, private visiting care agencies and private carer ads on online forums and notice boards. Families are increasing looking at live-in care as a solution that brings many advantages to both the family and the carer

Affordable Live-in Homecare (or ALHomecare, for short) has been placing live-in carers all over Ireland for nearly 9 years. They have capable, competent and caring live-in carers ready to start new placements in the coming weeks and months. All their carers are carefully selected, garda vetted and reference checked, and provided with ongoing training and support. Their live-in carers can provide active daytime and/or active night time care.

The service is much more affordable than a nursing home or private visiting care service because the carer lives-in. The family provides the carer with a room and food, and a reasonable salary. So the carer has nice working conditions and the family has a carer who sleeps in at night and works by day. It is a genuine win-win solution that nearly 1,000 families have benefitted from since ALHomecare started back in 2014.

The carer lives in the client’s home and works up to 8 hours per day, 6 days per week. The starting point is 7 hours work per day, 5 days per week. The carer is there at night for the client’s comfort and reassurance, and by day, she/he does housekeeping, prepares meals, keeps company and provides personal care, if required. She/he can work around the hours that the family has from the HSE in terms of HSE Home Support.  And all of their placements come with a 3 week trial period.

The service starts from around €500 per week with accommodation and food provided for the carer and a placement fee is paid to ALHomecare for setting up the placement in the first place.  And you can claim tax relief of up to 40% on the cost of homecare, if your relative is incapacitated.

Remember: ALHomecare provides a nationwide service and all their carers are garda-vetted and reference checked.

One of ALHomecare’s clients, Aoife Martin, needed care for her mother. Aoife considered several different options until she finally settled on ALHomecare. Aoife wrote the following about her experience of ALHomecare’s service:

“For almost two years now my family has availed of ALHomecare services. An excellent carer was sourced for my mother who suffers from dementia. All of her references, garda checks, legal status, training and past experiences were supplied to us which meant we were confident in employing this carer and welcoming her into our home.

Over the two years, she became part of our family and there is no way my mother could have lived in her own house during this time if it wasn’t for this carer. I had many enquiries as to how to become an employer for ALHomecare and I found Tom and his team available and ready with advice and tips for embarking on this new model of care that really bridges the gap between casual care and a nursing home model. The charges and cost were upfront, nothing was hidden and Tom and his team were supportive and guiding throughout.

For us it was paramount that the carer was honest, kind and could speak decent English. What we got was an exceptionally decent young woman who went above and beyond to provide attuned person-centered care. Something my family can be proud of throughout this challenging time.

I have no hesitation recommending ALHomecare and they deserve to go from strength to strength for their vision in providing a unique model of affordable care to Irish people. Thank you.”
