The Age-Friendly AI training programme, Ireland’s National Artificial Intelligence Literacy Initiative for Older Adults, is coming to the Salthill Hotel as part of the Galway 50 Plus Show this November and will be hosting a workshop titled:
“An Introduction to Artificial Intelligence – Learn the Benefits & Risks”
The programme is delivered by researchers from Technological University Dublin and the ADAPT Research Ireland Centre
Age-Friendly AI was developed in partnership with older adults and leading ageing-focused organisations across Ireland. This training programme follows a year-long public dialogue exploring their hopes, concerns and expectations regarding artificial intelligence (AI) and its role in everyday life. Accompanying resources and training materials for librarians and other educators will support lifelong learning in their communities.
Our team visited the 50 Plus Show in Cork on September 8th and 9th. We had wonderful engagement at our stand where visitors had friendly chats with the team, interacted with some of our AI exhibitions and shared their thoughts on AI via our AI Opinions Campaign.
On both days we also held workshops on ‘Introduction to Artificial Intelligence’, where we explored the technology and had meaningful conversations with participants about its impact on our lives. In total over 55 people attended these events and it was fantastic to engage with them as they shared their own lived experiences with AI, what it is useful for and what they are concerned about as it develops. One person raised the issue of trusting AI in health-related topics, like figuring out a diagnosis. In cases such as this, it is always recommended to seek professional human advice and not rely solely on decisions made by AI.
